A student council usually consists of a group of students from the same department, but
the responsibilities may be shared by the different subject areas at bigger departments.
Among teacher students, different departments’ councils often cooperate. They are a part of the Student Union but exercise a great deal of independence on how to work and which objectives to pursue.
The main task of a Student Council is to represent the students at a given department/ programme/course and work towards improving the quality of the education. Their work may also extend to other matters such as equality, environmental health, career opportunities and social events.
Join a student council
Through your student council, you get the opportunity to work with issues that affect
you and your situation, both regarding the content and structure of your education and
your study environment. Swedish is predominantly spoken throughout the Student Councils. However, people of all languages are encouraged to participate in student governance.
To join, please contact the Student Council at your department. You are also welcome with inquiries on student participation to the Student Governance Officer at your faculty.
